Akilesh Shankar
Undergraduate Research Assistant
I am a fourth year undergraduate studying Genetics and Biotechnology at UBC who joined the lab in the summer of 2023 as a CBR Scholarship Research Assistant. I worked with Dr. Morten Ritso in investigating fibro-adipogenic progenitor cells that repress the IL33 pathway via a soluble decoy ST2 receptor, which causes changes in muscular regeneration. Such research adds to novel therapeutics efforts for anti-fibrosis and dystrophy. I am continuing this project in more detail as a volunteer research assistant. In my spare time I love working out, watching soccer, and reading.
